RatnerPrestia Opens Washington, D.C. Office and Welcomes New Shareholder
Washington, D.C., August 2011 – RatnerPrestia is excited to announce the opening of its Washington, D.C. office. On the opening, Jonathan Spadt, CEO, notes, "As we continue to leverage our growth from tri-continental relationships, with more and more clients operating around the world to develop new technology, it is important that we be more accessible and bring in new talent to support broader and broader client interests. D.C. is the hub of activity and travel between Europe, Asia and the U.S. and we see it as a natural part of our evolution.”
The firm is 30 years old, but turning into something new. Its long, proven track record of success was not enough. With an eye towards the future, its management has transitioned to new leadership, planned new strategies, and has developed a new attitude.
The firm has realized increased work, both in traditional intellectual property law services and ever changing, overlapping legal issues relevant to global product development and distribution. Work in IP litigation, transactional matters, governmental and regulatory issues, and cross-border enforcement proceedings are all on the rise for RatnerPrestia. The Washington, D.C. market makes it easier for clients to access the firm’s talent, and provides a new home for the hiring of additional lawyers to support the businesses the firm represents.
RatnerPrestia is also adding the first of many new shareholders to its D.C. office with the addition of Tom Southard. Southard specializes in patent and trademark litigation as well as trademark counseling, licensing and prosecution matters. Southard routinely appears before the U.S. Trademark Trial & Appeal Board and has handled numerous ICANN domain dispute cases before WIPO and the National Arbitration Forum. On Southard, Spadt noted: "Tom Southard is impressive and philosophically aligned with our goals. He is solid, genuine, and honest. You meet him and in ten minutes you think, ‘this guy is the real deal.’ I'm quite certain that we'll be helping each other out until we both retire."
On the new office, and the firm generally, Spadt comments that, “Washington is a city of energy. That's the same thing that drives our firm. We crank all the time in every place. We’re 24/7/365/360. Unlike some top tier firms, we don't try to maximize fees on a project. We build long term relationships through trust and dedicated honesty - good news and bad, no matter what. We are a group of people who focus on success for the people who hire us. We know we are good and we love proving it. Clients appreciate our honesty and our success at achieving effective results for their business challenges. Our success is secondary to that of our clients. We are in it together and we care. Our actions prove that. When we say we'll do something, you can consider it done.”
RatnerPrestia’s practice is devoted exclusively to intellectual property law. With extensive and diverse legal, technical and corporate backgrounds, its professionals provide practical, cost-effective, business-oriented counseling to a wide range of international and domestic clients. It also represents clients in essentially all courts and patent and trademark offices. RatnerPrestia is a full service IP firm with a 30 year proven track record of success.
