Life Science Professionals, April 2011

The April Life Science Professionals event was sponsored and held at the Fraunhofer Center for Molecular Biotechnology. The evening started with networking and cocktails in the Fraunhofer CMB lobby, and was followed by a talk from Fraunhofer CMB Director Vidadi Yusibov.

Yusibov began his talk by emphasizing the importance of innovation. He referred to Fraunhofer CMB’s namesake, Joseph von Fraunhofer, who was a German researcher and inventor in the late 18th century and early 19th century. Joseph developed new methods of glass production and processing, and developed several optical instruments. While Joseph’s scientific focus was much different than that of Fraunhofer CMB, Yusibov compared the ingenuity and innovation of Joseph’s work and that being done at Fraunhofer CMB.

Fraunhofer CMB is an applied research organization that focuses on human health. Fraunhofer CMB research centers around plant protein production that can be used to create new vaccines.

Yusibov also emphasized the importance of teamwork. He acknowledged all of his co-workers who attended the event and commended their hard work and dedication. He noted that Fraunhofer CMB started in 2001 with two employees, and has grown to now employee over 90 individuals.

He also thanked the Delaware BioScience association for organizing events like the Life Science Professionals event, which have helped create a stronger life science community in the region.

Please look forward to the next Delaware Life Science Professionals event being held on Thursday, June 9, 2011. The evening’s featured speaker will be Bryan Tracy, CEO and lead scientist at Elcriton Inc.
