The Delaware BioScience Association to host the 2011 Annual Awards Gala
Delaware’s U.S. Senators and BIO’s President and CEO Jim Greenwood gather to honor five individuals for their significant contributions to Delaware’s life science community
NEWARK, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Delaware BioScience Association (Delaware Bio) will host its fourth Annual Awards Gala on April 11, 2011 at the DuPont Country Club. The event will honor five individuals who have made significant contributions to the state's life science community. Over 300 academic, government and industry leaders will gather to celebrate this year's honorees.
This year’s award recipients are:
Government Official Award: The Honorable Edward E. "Ted" Kaufman, former U.S. Senator
Service Award: Thomas P. Ferry, Senior Vice President at Nemours & CEO of Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children (ret.)
Innovation Award: Myron Sasser, Ph.D., CEO and R&D Director of Laboratory Research at MIDI, Inc.
Innovation Award: Charles F. Saller, Ph.D., President and CEO of ABS, Inc.
Academic Research Award: Xinqiao Jia, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Delaware
“The Gala annually brings together the largest gathering of leaders in Delaware’s diverse life sciences community,” said Delaware Bio President Bob Dayton. “This event gives us the opportunity to celebrate the achievements in innovation, healthcare delivery and advocacy made by these individuals and the teams that support them.”
The featured speaker for the evening will be Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) President and CEO Jim Greenwood. Joining the celebration, and presenting awards at the Gala will be Delaware U.S. Senators Tom Carper (D-Del.) and Chris Coons (D-Del.) and Delaware Economic Development Office Secretary Alan Levin.
